Merry meet
If you are on this site then you already have an interest in the craft be no more than a passing curiosity or a burning desire to become one!
Here you can find out more. One of the first questions asked is what is a witch
A women practising sorcery - oxford dictionary.
However this need not be the case some witches are male! Believe me very much male.
It would be better if you read what everyone elses description is ........
Brightest blessings

As the word "Witch" is of Anglo Saxon origins as can be seen from below:
(The cc is pronounced as a "Ch")
wicca [] 1. m (-n/-n) wizard, magician, soothsayer, astrologer; 2. see wicga
wicce [] f (-an/-an) witch
wiccecræft [] m (-es/-as) witchcraft, magic
wiccedóm [] m (-es/-as) witchcraft
wiccian [] wv/t2 to use witchcraft
wiccræft see wiccecræft?
wiccung [] f (-e/-a) enchantment
wiccungdóm [] m (-es/-as) witchcraft
I think..................
A Witch of what-ever gender is a person following in a 1000 year + tradition in tune with the natural forces around them. Using the magic/Galdor that is all around us and inherent in all life to the benefit of themselves and their fellow human beings, but also capable of what ever it takes when the need arises!

I think a witch is someone who uses the ebb and flow of natural energies to produce preset ends, not necessarily with a view to a higher force like the God/dess. Like Wulfeage, I think the only prerequisite is being in touch with nature as the source of power.

I have come to learn in recent weeks that a Witch is something much different than the preconceived notions I had. I thought witches were, er, um, practitioners of dark arts and kind of Gothic... I didn't realize that the witches were as tied into nature as they were. I didn't realize that they were so loving as they are! And crafty with things, and so dedicated to their gods and goddesses! I guess I really didn't know what a real witch was! I thought Wiccan was just some New Age term for a less sinister witchcraft.
My! I have a lot to learn but have learned so much already!

To me, a witch is a person that has truly embraced the form of symbolism and utilizes it as a craft. To me, it's almost art. It's a tangible assistant to the intangible. A Witch is a conductor, a composer, and a musician.

To me a witch is someone who is intune with nature; someone who honours the ebbs and flows of nature and is in touch with the spiritual aspects of this; someone who uses energy to create magic for good and to help others; a person who sees the magic in everything around them.

Ok! A witch is about taking control of your own life. Working with the natural energies around as the magician in tarot stand one arm sky ward the other earthwards this is a witch. The flowing of power as AG so aptly put it A conductior, composer and musician!
