Energy saving light bulbs although expensive to buy and are not always suitable for low incomes are well worth it in the end! Only filling the kettle enough to make what you need Use the aga instead of electricity ;D ;D Have individual stats in rooms and turn the ones down you do not use Err shall I carry on ...... ;D

All good stuff Pheo.
Use the showers more less baths water conservation is going to be an issue this year more than normal unless we get some massive rain fall soon. If you have a lot of money to spend solar panels to heat water although this is expensive and not possible in some housing. Energy saving light bulbs are available in Poundland and they are good quality. I have been working on a solar panel design which could be used to warm water and could be built by an enthusiastic DIY'er although there are a few problems we are getting there. The main problem is transferring the energy to where you want it with to much heat loss.

Have you considered a heat exchange system, incorporating your compost heap. Your piping would need to insulated and under ground to prevent heat loss.
Wouldn't work here as our winters are so long.

In my house we only flush the loo after no.2 ;D, the rest as they say we let mellow ;D...
Recycle everything..
Invest in a compost bin, even if you don't have a garden you can now buy little bins that will fit in the kitchen or in a yard...
Grow your own vegetables..
Don't leave gadgets on standby - they will use as much electricity if they were on...

If it's brown flush it down, if it's yellow let it mellow ;D LOL!
Switch off lights and other electrical appliances when you're not using them. You'd be surprised how much energy is wasted when you put the T.V on stand-by or leave your mobile charger plugged in. Place a house brick in the water cistern of your toilet - you will save 50% water every time you flush! Don't leave the tap running when brushing your teeth ( You'd be amazed how many people do this ) just turn it on when you want to rinse your brush and then turn it off again. Keep a water butt in your garden so as it fills up with rain water to use for watering your garden during the summer. Keep a compost heap/bin - neither are difficult and time consuming and you're reducing the amount of waste going in to land fill sites. Re-cycle ALL your re-cyclable rubbish. Try and grow as much of your own produce as you can - even if it's just a couple of Tomato Plants you'll still be making a difference. Have a fireplace in your house that is unused or blocked off? Un block it and use it. You'd never have to cut down a Tree or buy fire wood - just go to your local dump and see how much wood there is just lying there in the form of chairs, tables, old fencing, wooden pallets - they'll only end up rotting away! Don't take the car - walk, cycle or use public transport as and when possible.

Draw your curtains before the chill of the night sets in. It is more effiencent to leave your stat on all the time even if turned lower in really cold weather than turning the heating up when coming into a cold house.
