That time of year now. I found this remedy in my book Essential Oils and Aromatherapy. My daughter (12) had a cold and we lessens some of the symptoms without using drugs.
This is only an alternative. Doctor knows best . I wouldn't recommend using any of very small kids. They could burn themselves. Massage is great for small kids, just use 1/2 the amounts indicated for massage for little ones. Sometimes just a massage with warmed (carefully) oils make them settle better anyway.
Thyme 2 drops
Tea Tree 2 drops
Eucalyptus 1 drop
Lemon 3 drops
Add to hot bath once full sit back and breath deeply. I close the shower curtain/door so that the steam stays in. I have also used this in a soap dish on the side in a hot shower also.
To inhale the steam. Boil water and put into a glass bowl and cover your head over the steam with a towel. Add to water 1 drop of each of the following: thyme, tea tree, lavender and clove. I also add a drop of Eucalyptus. Don't get too close. You want to breath in steam, not hot water. Great for the skin also. Rinse face after with warm water as this makes you sweat.
You can also add to a difusser pendant or tissue to inhale throughout the day: 1 drop of each of the following: red thyme, peppermint, eucalyptus and clove.
Massage before bed the following 1 drop lemon, 2 drops eucalyptus, three drops rosemary in 1 teasthingy of veggie oil (I use grape seed/olive oil - makes the skin nice and soft) I also massage a little oil and lavender around the nose area - helps prevent cracked and sore nose from blowing all the time. Sleep like a baby. Lavender makes you sleepy so don't use during the day if you are going out anywhere.
