Are you watching? I'm trying not to. For the most part because I really don't care that much about sports. But also in part, it annoys me at the waste.(IMO)
All these people, working so hard to be the best at a game originally intended as fun. All those countries, spending millions of dollars every year just so a few people can play those games.
Ok, so the host city ends up with some new buildings. How many of those cities are still paying for them. We're talking increased taxes to the little guy here. And what do you do with an indoor speed skating facility after the games are over??? More renovations and tax spending.
A lot of hoopla just so one country can boast, "we won more gold than you did"

We in the Uk hardly win anything and when we do we make them national heros! This seems a little far fetched just because of a sport - great writings, great deeds but sport! Sorry not a sports person ;D

I agree with the both of you, I'm not a fan off sports either and what makes me mad is the amount a footballer gets a week ....Nurses and doctors don't get that, firemen and teachers don't get that sort of money!.....And the less said about the millennium dome the better...

In Canada and the States, it's not unusual to here that some one just signed a 5 year contract to play hockey, with an average annual wage of $3 - 5,000,000.00
At the same time the teachers had to go on strick to get a raise to take them to an annual wage of $50,000.00
