Time for some philosophy
Ethics / ethical. Just what does that mean to you?
If you truly believe in the Rede and the concept "harm none", is not every day a conflict? If you eat, you've harmed something. If you drive, you've harmed something.
Does the Rede only apply to magic? If so, is that not unethical?

True words WS....As I'm not a Wiccan and i don't really care for their rede, can i really answer your question?..
However its really hard to try and live your life without harming or hurting someone or something...A word or a look can offend, as you said eating something has harmed whether its an animal, fruit or vegetable...Eating fruit and vegetables depending on where it has come from and their ethics towards the environment in order to grow the food, has an inpact....
However i will try my best no hurt another, i don't like spiders, but i wont go out of my way to kill them...
As for magic, that will all depend on the kind of magic one conducts, if you wish someone ill, then you are going against your 'rede'....
Mmmmmmm, good question, will need to think upon it some more.....

I don't know really, how to label myself; am I wiccan, a witch, a shaman, a bard? Should the Rede apply to me? I've held my beliefs for years before making the connection to Paganism, and had never heard of the Rede until a few months ago.
To me the phrase 'harm none' applies to one's intentions. Do not intentionally harm, or cause something to happen that will harm, another living being. This should apply to all aspects of one's life. This doesn't mean one should feel guilt that a bug might get squished as I walk across the grass, or that the grass is harmed by stepping on it.
Our great Mother Earth has supplied her creatures with a food chain. We are part of that chain, ok, top dog, but that does not mean we can abuse this position. If we are hungry, eat the fruits of the earth. But if we kill an animal for food, use the entire animal, not just the 'good' parts. And I think it's a good idea to thank the Mother, and give something back to her for what she supplies.
And, in my humble opinion, 'ethics' and 'being ethical' have turned into buzz words, and tend to mean whatever people need it to mean at the time to suit their needs. I try not to use these words because I've seen them abused too often.
