Following on from my thread about communicating with the subconscious mind, I recall saying I would post a quick technique for setting up subconscious communication - in this case more for personal development than anything else, but it does provide an excellent starting point for further work.
Anyway, I hope you find it interesting and maybe even usfeul.
This is called an affirmation, the process of repetition allows your conscious mind to 'drift off' as you become totally engaged in the words and actions. This is a much simplified version, and I don't take credit for this, although the words are mine - the physical techniques were shown to me by a mentor of mine, Tania. Its part (and only part) of a powerful and more complex process known as EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique).
OK so here is what you do.
Firstly you decide what affirmation you want to use. So, for example, if you are wanting to deal with a lack of confidence, then I would use the following words...
'..........although my confidence is low, I totally and completely love and approve of myself. I am human........'
Write it down on a piece of paper, in fairly large letters. For lots of people, the process of change begins by acknowledging these words in their written form - they may find it difficult, even painful, to write down their affirmation as it forces them to confront negative thought processes.
Once you have written this down, sit in a stable and solid chair, your back supported and your feet flat on the floor. Make sure your paper with your affirmation is right in your line of vision and look at it. Take the first two fingers of your right hand (if you are left handed, use the left hand and reverse all my other instructions) and hold them out in front of you. Then begins a process of tapping these two fingers against different parts of your body - I won't go into the complexities of this (I would be here all day) but the tapping essentially stimulates meridians, energy lines, within your body. You are going to tap rhythimcally, about as fast as a swiftly dripping tap (a water tap), and while you tap, you repeat your affirmation out loud. You begin with the first set of tapping, and then when you have said your affirmation you move on to the next set of tapping and repeat your affirmation again. And so the process continues. While you are doing this, focus on what you are doing - nothing else. Speak as loudly and clearly as you can. Turn off any music in the room, and allow yourself to ignore other distractions for as long as it takes.
So we have our affirmation, we are sat as we should be sat, and are ready to begin with the process of tapping.
1. Tapping the first two fingers of your right hand against the side of your left palm, just below the joint with your little finger. Hold you left hand up and slightly away from you. Repeat your affirmation out loud.
2. Tapping against the centre of your forehead. Repeat your affirmation out loud.
3. Tapping against your right temple, just in between your eye socket and your hairline. Repeat your affirmation out loud.
4. Tapping just underneath your right eye socket, just above the cheekbone. Repeat your affirmation out loud.
5. Tapping just above your upper lip, directly underneath your nose. Repeat your affirmation out loud.
6.Making your right hand into a fist now and tapping just below your left shoulder, below your collarbone. Repeat your affirmation out loud.
7. Lifting your left arm now and making your right hand flat. Using the flat of your hand, tapping your side just below your armpit. Repeat your affirmation out loud.
8. Return to step 1 and repeat this step again.
Work through this process three times before finishing with step 1.
Of course, change the purpose of the affirmation to suit you. You should always use the basic sentence I have given you, but insert words to suit your purpose in the blank space
'..........although........(insert your words here).............I completely and totally love and approve of myself. I am human......................'
Be careful with your choice of words - that is important. Did you notice that I used the words 'my confidence is low' instead of 'I lack confidence'? That is important. I won't go into the linguistics of this but if you want to learn more about word patterns and their importance, check out any one of the hundreds of books or sites devoted to NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming). Begin with this exercise, repeat it as often as you want to do - you can't overdo it. But stay focussed on one part of your life at once - don't do it one day for confidence, then the next for mood swings, then the next for eating healthily, then back to confidence - all that to-ing and fro-ing will confuse your subconscious mind. Find a purpose. Stick with it until you feel you have gone as far as you can with it - it may be a day, it may be longer. Then give your mind a rest for a couple of days and if you need to, move on to something else.
Once you have established this basic level of communication, there is more that can be done to further expand upon your subconscious communication. But that is for another day.
