I don't know about anyone else, but within the next couple of weeks i will be preparing the garden ready for the spring.....Leaves need picking up, the vegetable plot needs preparing and the whole garden just needs tidying up.....Iv noticed spring bulbs are taking their first peek out of slumber and i love that first sign, that spring is not far away......

Oh V! How I long for Spring! It will be a long time til I see any signs of Spring. Everything is still covered with snow and ice, including my pumpkin from Halloween! I usually use this idle time to write notes in my garden notebook so I can refer to them when Spring arrives. Perhaps I will plant some seeds inside now as well. ;DOh

You're thinking of spring already? whew!
Wow, Verminda, you start this early? I don't think we could start on a garden around us until at least late March or early April.

What kind of shape is the ground in that early? Is it not frozen?
Good to be back. I tend to run in spurts hehehe

Hey AG...Sometimes the ground may be a little frozen in which case i usually leave it for a while, but the next few weeks will be mainly tidying up....I dont go out there to pick the leaves up at the end of autumn so i have that to do and then its just preparing the ground ready for the shallots and onions....Around March though, i bet you it snows, it normally does and then spring kicks in.... ;D...

My tulips are poking through as well as the daffs, but hubby tells me that we're due to get the tail end of this cold snap that's Russia's dealing with. Every year at this time I seem to fret over losing things to frost. Snowdrops are out- anyone seen them?

I have one clump of leaves showing where my large snowdrops are, but no sign of any others, and most of my daffs and tulips are above ground now. Several of my winter aconites are in flower, but others are not yet visible, I hope I haven't lost them!

This is really exciting time of year for me as I am discovering what lays dormant in my new garden and I have seen the first daffodil shoots in a sheltered corner ;D The rest of the garden is still dormant North facing! The sunny south has my rickity greenhouse and summerhouse so will need to get some more interest up there soon!

My Irises, Snowdrops, Crocuses, Forget-me-nots and Chamomile are all in bloom;D The forget-me-nots and Chamomile I started from Seed so I'm really chuffed they're doing so well. I yearn for Spring, this year I am going to be exceptionally busy in my little garden as I have BIG plans for planting crops that I've never tried before. These include Aubergines, Carrots ( grown them lots of times but never in pots ), Spinnach, Courgettes plus my usual crops of lettuve, Tomatoes, Cucumbers, Beans, peppers, Chilis and lots of new herbs as well as my old favourites. Yep, I can't wait for spring!!
