I divine so I can be the person I am and try and get a grasp of any given moment. Because I live life (as oft accused ) at a fast pace. Also because I have an intiable thurst for knowledge Anyone else Phoe

I devine so that I can get a better understanding of who I am and whether I am going in the right direction. When I do tarot, if I am going in the wrong direction, it usually slaps me side the head. It is also a way to meditate and commune with the God and Goddess.
Like Phoe said, I love to learn and, to me, witchcraft is all about learning about yourself and others and where you fit into this wonderful vast cosmos of learning.

i divine to find other advice about situations, to foretell what will be if I or other people continue to tread the path we are at the moment without change and to recieve guidance about steps to take or avoid.
I also sometimes divine after meditation to make clearer a message I may have recieved in case it was ambiguous in nature.

What type of divination do you use, Lily? I use tarot.

I use my faery oracle cards which are just like tarot really but with different meanings and well.. Faeries!!
I also use pendalum, am working on learning runes... and I have two scrying balls, one clear and one black... the latter a recent addition to my collection as it was so blimming cheap in boscastle how could I refuse?
I also use a lot of omen interpretation as divination too, feathers, natural omens (when I remember the meanings!!) and asking for them! ... like today, I was going to buy a skirt in a shop, but the queue was getting ridiculous and I thought... maybe I'm not meant to have the skirt, so I asked for a sign to say whether I should get the skirt or not, and a minute later the girl in front of me let in her aunt and mother who had armfuls of stuff into the queue.... I took it as a sign that I was being blocked from getting to the tills for a reason and walked out! Maybe I was just impatient but I'd rather do that than see what might happen!

That would be a sign for me. Especially since you just asked for one. Lineups are good for rethinking impulse purchases.
I thought it was you that used faery oracles. I will have to get you to teach me a little about them when I get more comfortable with Tarot. I want to learn runes too. So much to learn, so little time. LOL

Here's a question, are people more comfortable with such tasks if one uses the term divination?

AG good question. For me the answer is no. I hardly use the term divination within my daily life unless I am refering to the collective. I just normally say I going off to read ......
Divination : Insight into or discovery of the unknown or future by supernatural means. (Oxford dictionary)
Therefore the term divination has more estoric meanings than the actual task in hand.
I am comfortable around the estorical aspects of the craft and life as I have two feet firmly planted within the ground. It is as natual to me a breathing, eating and drinking. It is part of who I am so whether the fact I feel comfortable about using a particular word to describe something that makes me feel better no.

what tasks AG? I'm confused... must be all the faery dust!!
I have to say I don't need to use swanky new age terms to be comfortable with my craft and my occult practices... ie don't need to put 'white' before witch to explain myself lol
I guess my age helps me a bit with shedding (or more like not caring about) the negative connotations of such practices, I'm too young to care what people associate with divination and the like so its no problem, nor will it be! I'm not subject to the 'white light' crusade of new agers on my understanding of things... not that that in itself is a problem for others... but I can see that those who were caught up in the new age and its afterwaves can have a Christian guilt about some practices, but thats not their fault, more the world they grew up in as opposed to mine.

For me, I really don't think I am devining when I read tarot. I just say I am reading tarot. I only think of it, when a topic such as this comes up. For me devination is a way to get in touch with the goddess and god rather than predicting the future. It's more of a way to detect a state of being than the actual future.
Reading tarot is more an intuitive process for me. It allows me to shed light on a situation that is troubling me or getting some advise on a topic. Kinda like seeing a phycologist, it pulls the answers from your mind that are already there.
