--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The main themes of Lammas are the death and rebirth of the God, the festival of Lugh the sun God...The first harvest and personal sacrifice to repay what we have all been given...Lammas is about making sure that we have given enough for what we have recived...........People sometimes think of the things that they would like rather than remembering what they do have...So lammas is a good time to remember the positives in life and to count ones blessings.....
As the crops ripen towards Lammas everyone used to be called in to help with the harvest..If the corn was not cut and harvested than whole communities would starve....
Many harvest festivals, recall part of these practices, corn dolls , woven from long straw, with the ears of wheat, barley or rye left on for decoration are still made today....
Some groups will reenact the sacrifice of the corn God who dies, to give life to his people..The god dies and is supposed to enter the underworld until his rebirth at Yuletide.....
Take some pieces of paper and on one side make a note of something that you have achieved in the past year or since your last sabbat, on the reverse side make a note of something you intend to in return for this.....Now this could be cooking a special meal for someone that deserves it, going into the countryside and picking up rubbish left behind by others, teaching a child something.........
When you begin your ritual call upon the elements, God and the Goddess in the usual way...Take the first piece of paper and read the achievement, give thanks to the Lord and Lady for receiving this....Turn the paper over and read your ' payment', dedicate this task to the Lord and Lady, repeat this with all achievements / payment...Once you have finished thank the elements, the God and Goddess.....
You can also have a God symbol in your house, a gold colored flower and place this near your symbol...
You could bake bread and plaite in the shape of a wheatloaf or the form of a man, how about making gingerbread men and sharing them out with your family and friends....
As i have already mentioned, taking your time and collecting litter in your local park or woods, then maybe a picnic after where you can share out the bread and biscutes.......
